Most of the people that knew Walter, had as much love for him as did the many that wrote him. Every log day meant another red mail bag mostly addressed to Walt. Cambodia claimed the lives of quite a few men in this outfit. 2nd Platoonm, B Company, 1st Battalion 5th U.S. Cavalry 1st Cavalry Division.

As a Mother
My son at 3 years came to me and said that he knew a soldier named "Walt Huffman" and that he was 20 and died in VietNam. We went to the wall years later and found his name (I knew that it would be there). We have thought of him since, and as a Mother I feel a kinship of sorts as my son seems to have a link. He and his family are always in our thoughts and prayers. For all of the lost, and for Walt, God Bless!

Walter was a very brave machine gunner that was like by one and all. One of the saddest days of my platoons life the day he was killed. I will never forget him.
